The IFFHS has named Gianluigi Buffon the best goalkeeper of the 21st century. So, the 43-year-old Juventus goalkeeper beat Iker Casillas and Petr Cech.

 

Gianluigi Buffon was recognized as the best goalkeeper of the XXI century. The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) named the Juventus Turin veteran goalkeeper at the top of the rankings of the best goalkeepers of modern times.

The overall ranking of the XXI century was based on the analysis of annual rankings published from 2001 to 2020. The list included goalkeepers who met in the platoon. For example, the goalkeeper who took first place in the ranking of the year received 20 points. The second – 19 points and then on this principle.

In addition to Buffon, the top three goalkeepers of the century also include former goalkeeper of the Spanish national team Iker Casillas and ex-goalkeeper of the Czech national team Petr Cech.
