England won the third Ashes test in Headingley with an amazing thrill as the tailenders Chris Woakes and Mark Wood stuck on the crease till the end and led their team to the win by three wickets. This was Wood’s first match in the Ashes in 2023, and he didn’t let anyone down. Now his fellow teammate, Ollie Robinson, has appreciated him through his Wisden column. As Wood took five wickets in the first innings and two in the second, Ollie wrote, “It was madness, and it seemed to me that if he hit it more than a metre on either side of me, it was a sure boundary. He was consistently getting in shape, and his bowling was just unbelievable. It was amazing to be a part of it and watch, although it wasn’t amazing for the batsmen.
Mark was the player of the match in third test
The 33-year-old Mark Wood was awarded the player of the match for his flamboyant spell in the first innings of the match. During his opening spell, Wood dismissed Australian opener Usman Khawaja with a dangerous inswinger that clipped the batsman’s leg stump. After this, the English bowler troubled their number three batsman, Marnus Labuschagne. We also saw Marcus give a weird smile after playing one of the balls.
Robinson praised Wood
Robinson further wrote, “He was trying to put on a personality that everything is fine when it is really not, because someone is bowling at 95 mph. It was too quick for him after that. Even Khawaja, who was in great form and always plays pace really well was struggling with pace at times. He went from being calm at the crease to suddenly smiling and joking, trying to make him feel good that he was okay. The English bowler also praised Wood’s unique energy and stated that “he has this crazy and unique energy, there is no one like him”.

Robinson didn’t bowl on the third day of the Headingley test, but he stated that he was available if needed. Robinson played back-to-back test matches and bowled excellent 15 overs at Lords, that’s why the medical team said that this is likely to have happened. “Sometimes these things come around, but they go away just as quickly,” he concluded.
