Jose Mourinho has slammed Tottenham’s chairman Daniel Levy for sacking him days before Spurs were due to play in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.
The iconic Portuguese manager, Jose Mourinho was sacked six days before the Wembley showpiece which Spurs would go on to lose 1-0 in interim manager Ryan Mason’s second match in charge of the north Londoners.
Levy fired Mourinho for a poor run of results which ultimately denied Spurs a place in the Champions League and the Europa League. But, he has now revealed the opportunity to win a trophy with Spurs was a “dream” for him.
He said, “if you want to be proactive, you can ask me how many trophies I have won in my career. The half is the final I didn’t play with Tottenham”.
“To have a chance to win a trophy with a club that doesn’t have many was a dream”.
The Carabao Cup was Spurs’ best opportunity to win a trophy this season but failure to beat Man City means the 13-year wait for a trophy goes on.
Spurs’ disappointing campaign has also raised doubts about the future of star striker Harry Kane, who ended the term as the Premier League’s top goalscorer and assist maker with 23 successful strikes and 16 lay-offs.
Kane, who enjoys a successful partnership with Spurs’ South Korean winger Son Heung-Min, has told Spurs that he wants a move away from the club this summer and has been strongly linked to Guardiola’s City.
Mourinho has told his former striker to ‘play where he is happy’ – which the Portuguese manager believes is in England’s top-flight.
The ex-Spurs boss added: ‘He is one of the top strikers in the world. I did enjoy it (working with him) very much. I love his partnership with Son.
‘I think he has to play where he is happy. And I think he is happy in England. He is a very Premier League guy.’
Spurs are yet to find a full-time replacement for Mourinho following Mason’s brief spell as temporary coach, having failed in their pursuits for Mauricio Pochettino, Brendan Rodgers, and Antonio Conte.
Meanwhile, Mourinho has already decided his next destination in football and will take over the reins at Serie A side AS Roma from next season.
